I'm with smile_for_a_while. Michelangelo's sculpture emphasizes the physical perfection of the human body. Howwever, I also feel that da Vinci tops him in pure genius. Plus,I like the Mona Lisa more than David.
Leonardo da Vinci is my favorite. He's not only studied the arts like music, painting, and sculpting but also was a great inventor. Some of the things he concieved were so advanced they couldn't be actually constructed for another 400 years. He was like the Einstein of his era. Plus, like hoorayitsjana said he was like the perfect well-rounded person.
Something's been bugging me. I was thinking that if Leonardo and Michelangelo and Rapael were such geniuses, how come it never occured to them to define the perfection of women in sculptures? Yes they celebrated Venus and the Virgin Mary in many of their, but they weren't drawn in what looked like the perfect proportions of the female body. It bugs me that even though they were "geniuses" they never included women in their ideas of perfection. Or did I just miss that part in class?
OOOOOhWaaaaa! We focus on the major artists for a reason because they in some way had a "major" impact. They were the ones that stood out. The artists of the Northern Renaissance reicieved inspiration by studying the Italian artists. Not only the "trinity artists" were major, don'tcha know. Giotto is credited with being the Father of the Renaissance. And most people only think of Michelangelo when they hear the word "art" because of his influence from past to present-not because they neccessarily know what his paintings stood for.
Thanks for your comment Julie. I understand. No matter how much of a genius those painters were, they were still not as openminded as they could have been.
Yeah some of them probably were a little closeminded about their paintings. However, Leonardi did paint the Mona Lisa and that is one of the most famous paintings in the world I have known about it since second grade art class. On the other hand your right that although a lot of artists painted women they didn't do anything like what Danatello did with his DAVID.
P.S. Raphael was the artist who painted the school of Athens in case you wanted to know
P.S.S. the red sux are about to lose the division again and big papi is to fat to do anything about it all he is good for is snarfing twinkies all day
Jake I wonder are you just trying to get on Wass' nerves
Jake, get over your insane Yankee worship. Oh yeah and because you refuse to stop kicking my chair in English, I hope the Yankees lose;)
Anywho, getting back on subject, I agree with you Guennie (that's such a cool name to say). I agree with you all. It just steams my carrots that women weren't seen as equals-even in art. I bet the only reason that Mary is even included in drawings is because she's Jesus' mother. You never see a drawing of Sarah or Esther-I hope I spelled that right. I think there was a drawind of Mary Magdollen-again hope I spelled that correctly-wiping up wine, I think, with her hair. How nice.

Wass, you should give Jake an "E" on the quiz, Monday. That way you can have revenge, and I can be consoled by the fact that justice exists...
Okey Wass you can laugh at me later I think that the greatest of the artists is Leonardo da Vinci. I say this only because of all of the stuff he did in his books
wow thats all i can say. all right first off the yankee fans are not the insane ones the red sux fans are insane!!! Did you know in Boston adults boo and curse little t-ballers who play on the yankees in their league. That's just horrible and i hope all you mean red sux fans all have a change of heart.
Whitwolfe i hope you realize that hating the yankees just because jake keeps kicking your chair wont help you out. And i dont think jake is doing this just to annoy was. Even was realizes its all a big joke and knows at this point the red sux have no chance at pulling off a division win. with that said i hope all of you have a great weekend.
(GOOOOOO YANKEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
I dont think anyone ever tried to copy one another if look at all the artists we talked about you see that each had a distinctive style and apart from the mannerism artists each artist had his own distict made unique works like how Raphael made the fleshy works and leonardo's paintings were so symmetrical.
(wow that was a long run-on sentence i need to pay more attention in english)
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!THE YANKEES GOT RAINED OUTTTTTTTTTT
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BUT THERE IS HOPE IN DESPAIR THERE WILL BE A DOUBLE HEADER ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY....
By the way what football game are you talking about?
Mayointhefride, I don't hate the Yankees or the Red Sox. Baseball is not something I dig all that much.(Don't hurt me.)I just want Jake to stop kicking my desk, toying with my hair clips, and pulling my desk back and forth. Is that too much to ask?:(
OOOh, let me know how the game goes. I already know that Smith is going to when, however.
My favorite would be Da Vinci. Not only was he an amazing artist, he studied and excelled in many other fields as well.
Complete genius.
Whitwolfe is Whitney, but I still prefer to be called Wolfe. Notice the "e". I can't agree with you, Kevin. Michelangelo was a good artist, but his paintings don't have the life that Van Eyck's did. The fabric looks so real and textured.Giovanni Arnolfini and his bride looked like they had a picture taken of them using a digital camera. Plus, I've never seen Michelangelo reflect anything in his paintings-exept his over-inflated ego. Oh and i_am_cooler_than_you: no_you_are_not.
That is neat...
I'd have to agree with boobearkins. Raphael was extremely talented. I like the way he brought a whole new dimension into his paintings such as in "The School of Athens."
But I'd have to say da Vinci was my favorite. He not only showed genius through his art, but he was way ahead of his time. He was just really well-rounded.
