I will argue that the exploitation of the Global Economy in some ways makes it worse. The Asian and African colonies were providing cheap raw materials and yet getting little in return.

Women--wow--in as many ways women were getting more opportunities, they were also be repressed. Look at Prostition--the disease act was an attack on the female--the perfect example of mysogyny. Plus, what about pay? Teachers were paid less because they were women--that has not changed much.

The book does not get into the Unions as much as it should --that must be more US--but it was pretty nasty what the Haymarket Riot and such.

Plus, the profits for the cartels increased greatly while pay increased for labors much less rate.

So, in the end, the Second Industrial Revolution may be the reason for the bourgeois dominated society that is about to implode due to globalization of the world's economy.

Just a thought

As I skimmed your comments, you guys are hitting a homerun on the alternative perspective--big business such as cartels and monopolies were never predicted by Smith. This altered the era and would cause a show-down between business and government.

Who is going to win? Why?
