Luther--Right or Wrong?
Luther began the Reformation that sparked the birth of the Modern Church. Rather than a single Church, Protestantism found itself divided.
What were the positive aspects of changes? What were the negative aspects?

Well, --Laura--, they did start an uprising that was the exact opposite of what Luther wanted.
A negative aspect: the religion was blown out of proprtion hence the Peasant Wars. There was still more division.
Positive: there was a kind of unity. Somehow...
I don't think it was ok for Luther to say the peasants should be smited, but I think it was a positive aspect because of its outcome. It worked out for Luther because the nobles stayed on his side. Together they were more powerful than the king, something the peasants could never be, and eventually Lutherism was recognized.
A negative aspect would be that the Holy Roman Empire would always be divided by two religions and not become a nation-state like Charles V wanted.
mcubed,
DUH! IT'S THE KING, GOVERNMENT, AND POPE! But of course they fought among themselves over who should be "top dog" (that's wasseology) ;)
Lutheranism is Catholicism sans the guilt.
