The parent role of colonization is interesting. Remember, that is kind of what the white man's burden was about and yet the europeans were more like an abusive parent. If they were there for true aid, what about the hospitals and schools and infrastructure...what about the respect of the culture. It would take missionaries without any real finance to complete the task fifty years later.
