Marx--an answer to the void the Church left
Before looking at this post, you must wrestle with the first post.
Now, think of this possibility--The Christian Church, during the Protestant and Catholic Reformation, surrendered the ideals of community to sell its faiths to the people. Rather that a revolutionary society made up of communities loving on each other, the Church accepted the Modernistic view of individuals and secularism. With the rising industrial corruption of society, the Church had no ability to reach out since it had already surrendered. Therefore, Marxism is a natural product of a secular society that NEEDS salvation from industrial ills.
What do you think about that?

I am not sure about the marburg question, but the Reformation did secularize society--almost with the idea that the church was completely separated from the society. With that said, the humanist ideals of the age come to fullness with Marx--if we can get to a natural, non-competive society then the goodness of society would overwhelm the world.
where's that hole. i need to crawl into it.
Ok, you are an utterly oppresed people. Social inequality is abound. You have two choices: revolt, or find an outlet. You find an outlet to cope with your inequality. That outlet is religion. Religion is "heart of a heartless world and the soul of soulles conditions". By deciding to cope with your inequality through religion, you have, to the appreciation of your oppresors, maintained the status quo. You're so smart. But uh-oo, here comes secularism. Where's your church? Social inequality, the status quo, remains and you can't take a hit of the opium you called religion. What ya gonna do? Well, your certainly not going to be a capitalist. Nooooo, why would you want to give up your labour-power, your capacity to transform and make better nature. That's ludicrus! So, here's what you do. As a last-ditch effort, you adopt marxism. It good for your health! You work. You work all day, and your work all night. "sounds oppresing..." say you? Nooooo, you dont have time to think about that! Now get to work.
today's dicussion: why I do IB!
blogs arn't myspace, sweeties.
Y'all are fundamentally missing the fundamentally good fundamentals of religion: It fosters a persons highest potential and it upholds morals in way nothing else can. Let us not forget that a "crutch" GREATLY improves the lives of those who use it.

well, our little analogy worked out perfectly for you, now didn't it.
nicole's a genious, it's that simple. how's that CD?
desire, I believe you present a point that Was was trying to get at today in 4th bell about nationalism. Marx must remove all feelings of nationalism in a people to get them to subsume work "for the good of everything". Its Marx way of brainwashing us to not be brainwashed.
I shall sum this evening's comments with this: Conversation humbles all. And the line, Was, has succesfully been erased. Good night, and good luck.
I think that marxism, while admirable on a purely idealogical standpoint, is inherently flawed in that is does not deal with reality. It just doesn't. It doesn't for all the reasons that Was mentioned in class, along with the fact that Marx was really trying to predict human nature and the future. In my experience that line of work is highly inaccurate to say the least. On the other hand, the Christian Church isn't much better off, and it would appear to me that they were not the answer either. to incorporate Hegel, you could argue that the christian church is the thesis, Marxism is the antithesis. I don't think that it's possible to have a synthesis of them, I mean, what would that be, a Socialist-Christian philosophy? Anyway, i don't think that either will provide salvation. Something else more acceptable will come.
On a completely different level, how would scientific progress and culture take place? If everyone is working, how will they be able to make advancements. Will science be their day job? Also, withhout leisure time there is no way for culture to flourish.
Before i sign off for the time being, Was, have you ever read the Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand? Also, what is your opinion of her philosophy, Objectivism, and its complete support of capitalism?
Yes, Marxism may have been the philosphy to fill the power vacuum left by the Church. Over time the Protestant Churches had become just as the CATHOLIC Church had before it. As Hegel would say, the Catholic Church and Lutheranism came together to form the synthesis of the multitude of new Protestant churches, just as the Protestant churches and Marx's new view came together to give society a new way to view the Church. Christians became more and more secularized as the synthesis, leading to discrimination of the Church that has become so apparent. Christians will not publicly stand up and defend their belief because for the past two centuries it has become more and more acceptable for the Church to sustain such abuse from society because 'the Church should have no role in state affairs.' The Church has become so secularized as a result of this that it no longer mixes in the affairs of state at all, this is why you may see stars of david and the crescent moon wherever you may go, but someone sees a cross 'O no...dirty Christians again!' and the Church will take no stand to protect its rights in society. Christianity is the majority religion world-wide, but it has no voice! I see this as a the synthesis from Marx's idea and the Protestant Churches.
since we're on the topic of marxism: IB is anti-christian, marxist
